KUALA LUMPUR, 28 April 2022: After getting hit by the pandemic for about two years, a lot of things have now changed, including people’s preferences in choosing the perfect design space for their homes.

In “AYDA Cakaplah: Post Pandemic trends”, an interior architect at studio and works, Arief Tajuddin, shared a few strategies on transforming and designing space according to the emotional and well-being of an individual.

Arief said that there are two main strategies to design a space to cater to the emotional needs and well-being of an individual which are, Realistic Design Strategies and Theoretical Design Strategies.

Under the Realistic Design strategies, there are some criteria which need to be fulfilled to make one’s space suitable for the emotional and well-being of an individual.

Firstly, for flexibility, it is best to make a room that can do all together. In order to do so, they need to do room dividers and screens which would differentiate the spaces. Moreover, “it is also best to have multi-functional furniture,” he said.

Secondly, it is also vital to improve air quality space. In order to do so, people need to have proper air ventilation such as natural ventilation, by  using air quality sensors and also HEPA approved air.

Apart from that, people could also make some connections to the outdoor space by having a small garden or backyard at their houses.

Last but not least, people need to be conscious and particular in material selection where in choosing the material, it is best to choose ‘Antimicrobial materials’ as it can be cleaned easily.

On the other hand, under theoretical design strategies, which is education within reach, Arief stated that since the pandemic occurred, the number of aesthetic cafes – a great place in getting good foods and good vibes – have increased.

With the increase of aesthetic cafes, it shows that people have become aware of the importance of the interior designs in affecting someone’s mood.  ***
