PUTRAJAYA, 27 April 2022: Following Cabinet approval, Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin today announced some relaxation of the standard operating procedures (SOP) during a press conference.

He told the press conference that as of now, people are encouraged to do isolation for seven days for COVID-19 cases. In the new protocol, individuals will be released from isolation starting from the fourth day, if they are found negative through the RTK-Antigen Test.

Khairy stated that the admission of individuals to any premise is permitted regardless of their vaccination status.

“Right now, I ask that the owner of the premise to check not the vaccination status of the individuals, but to check whether the customers are positive or not through the MySejahtera,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the use of face masks, Khairy said that wearing a face mask is still mandatory when inside the building (indoor) including public transportation such as e-hailing.

“However, outside the building (outdoor), and in public places it’s optional. Yet, it is encouraged in order to reduce the spread of infection,” says Khairy.

“We will still enforce mask mandate indoors if people did not comply,” he added.

Furthermore, the Health Minister also said that social distancing will no longer be mandatory. However, he encouraged the public to maintain social distancing if they are not wearing the mask.

“Scanning the QR code is also not mandatory when entering the premise or in a public place. However, it is advisable to activate the function of MySJ Trace in order to track close contact,” Khairy highlighted.

Khairy also said that giving salam or giving a handshake is allowed as long as people are consistently washing their hands and keeping themselves clean.

All the new protocols mentioned by the Health Minister at the press conference will be enforced on 1 May.***
