BANGI, 26 April 2022: The Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin wants to make sure that the relaxation of certain COVID-19 prevention standard operating procedures (SOP) can be done safely and without jeopardising people’s safety.
New Straits Times reported that Khairy wished to appropriately manage the issue and avoid making the wrong judgement on the relaxation of the SOPs.
“The ministry has been deliberating the matter at great length. We do not want to make mistakes.
“We wanted to manage the situation properly including ensuring that (new COVID-19) cases will continue to register a declining trend and that our hospitals are not under enormous pressure (following the relaxation to the SOPs),” said Khairy in yesterdays press conference.
Khairy was asked about the SOPs’ relaxation, which the Ministry plans to announce on Wednesday (April 27).
“We want to ensure that the relaxation to the SOPs is safe and careful.
“Therefore, based on this spirit, I will present the matter for approval from the Cabinet on Wednesday. If the Cabinet gives their approval, I will announce it the same day,” he added.
Khairy has also informed Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob of its plans related to the relaxation of the SOPs and will make further announcements this Wednesday.
On other matters, Khairy said 1,939 doses of the second COVID-19 booster shot had been administered to date.
“Most of the recipients of the second booster shots received the injections on a walk-in basis from their general practitioners and they are senior citizens with comorbidities,” he said.***
