KUALA LUMPUR, 26 April 2022: Malaysians driving home for the long-awaited Hari Raya Puasa celebrations this year can look forward to cheaper or even toll free rates on 30 highways nationwide.
Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the discounts and toll waiver are estimated to save motorists RM77.1 million, adding that the highway operators will bear the costs, according to Malay Mail report.
œIn line with the transition phase towards endemicity since 1 April 2022 and in conjunction with the Aidil Fitri celebrations that is expected to fall on 3 May, the government has agreed to give free and discounted tolls for Keluarga Malaysia returning to celebrate, he said in a statement yesterday (25 April).
PLUS, which operates the spinal north-south highway, will be waiving toll starting midnight 30 April 30 (Saturday) until 11.59pm on 1 May (Sunday) for all classes of vehicles.
The other toll operator to waive the fares will be Anih Berhad, which operates the east coast highways. The waiver will take effect within the same period.
Both the concessionaires will also be waiving tolls for the return trip. The free toll will take effect starting 7 May at midnight until 11.59pm on 8 May. Ismail said this will be the first time the two concessionaires waive tolls for both trips.
Meanwhile, other operators have agreed to give between 30 and 50 per cent discounts for motorists using their roads.
œI hope the discounted and free tolls will make the Aidil Fitri celebrations with your loved ones this year merrier, Ismail said.***
