GOMBAK, 9 December 2021: We should all strive to convey better communication to our community during unprecedented times like today, Dean of AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS), Prof. Dr. Shukran Abdul Rahman said yesterday.
Speaking during the closing of the two-day Communication Research Seminar (CORENA) 2021, he said although the pandemic has caused a multitude of unfortunate incidents, it has also provided a check and balance on various subjects that include accuracy in media reporting and information dissemination.
Emphasising the importance of communication especially during trying times like today, Shukran said: “This seminar has provided us a meaningful way to interact or to be updated on Communication studies.”
“It is particularly significant, amidst a time with so much uncertainty where society depends on those in the communication field to convey accurate messages for the community’s safety,” he added.
In his speech, Shukran encouraged colleagues from the field of communication to actively join forces with experts and practitioners from different areas to address community needs and help society members to live harmoniously.
This was in line with the theme of this year’s seminar ‘Media and Communication in ASEAN’, which covered a variety of issues pertaining to online education, strategic communication, media and digital literacy, audience analysis, as well as media and society that saw participation of academics from other Southeast Asian nations like Brunei Darussalam, Thailand and Indonesia.
The speech ended with Prof. Dr. Shukran expressing his wishes for the seminar to continue in the future with even more participants and topics to be covered making it inclusive for all.
CORENA 2021 held on 7 and 8 December marked the third seminar of its kind organised by the Department of Communication, AHAS KIRKHS.***
