KUALA LUMPUR, 3 December 2021: In conjunction with the 58th Convocation of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), national badminton legend Datuk Lee Chong Wei has been conferred an honorary doctorate in sports science.
USM Chancellor, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail conferred the doctorate on Lee at the Green Room, Istana Arau yesterday.
Lee was given the honorary degree for bringing pride to the country as a three-time Olympic silver medalist and his status as a national sports icon, according to USM Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Faisal Rafiq Mahamd Adikan said .
Meanwhile, Lee expressed his gratitude for the honour and stated that he would be happy to collaborate with USM in the field of sports science in the future.
“This is the first time I’ve gotten an award like this,” he added, “and I’m looking forward to seeing how I can utilise my knowledge in this sport to help the university (USM) in the future.” ***
