KUALA LUMPUR, 19 October 2021: Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah urged Muslim intellectuals and political figures to work together to combat corruption.
He asserted that corruption itself is like a cancer that kills people. It has been proven to be the catalyst of people’s suffering and poverty, as well as the abolition of rulers and governments, the disintegration of nations and empires, and the tarnishing of civilisations and cultures.
œIntellectuals and politicians, as a result, cannot close their eyes, deafen their ears, or keep their mouths shut when it comes to acts of corruption, said Sultan Nazrin.
In a video message to coincide with the celebration of Maulidur Rasul that was broadcast over RTM last night, the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong said that corruption has been a growing issue across the country recently.
Sultan Nazrin also mentioned that leaders play a critical role in ensuring a peaceful world and a pleasant life for the ummah when the ummah is in distress.
He stated that those who are chosen to lead the ummah must model themselves after Prophet Muhammad’s leadership wisdom in order for the governing to remain just and fairly.
This is absolutely necessary because Prophet Muhammad is the only person who is showing a good example in various aspects including the way of governing, leadership skills, and be kind to society of people.
œThe ummah also has expressed a desire for leadership that is not corrupt, does not abuse power, does not engage in nepotism, and does not violate trust, he added.
Hence, if leaders are constantly aware of their responsibility to God as well as the ummah and country, the ummah will flourish, national assets will be managed honestly, resources will be equally distributed, and national wealth will not be wasted.
The ruler also emphasised that one of Prophet Muhammad’s character qualities, specifically in ruling aspects, in which he did not abuse his position and stood firm in upholding the truth and the rights of others.
Above all, the Prophet did not grant special treatment to his family or close friends and was not influenced by any bribe or intention to do so as he obeyed Allahs command and main resource, the Quran.***
