GOMBAK, 25 August 2020: The Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED) needs to identify on how the university can benefit and bring values to the community through its expertise which is part and parcel of education, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak said during his session with the Kulliyyah on 15 July.

The Rector had suggested for KAED to come up with a project which is of international standard by identifying which Sustainability Development Goals that the Kulliyyah would like to implement which must be in line with the IIUM’s seven missions to make it meaningful to the community.

He expressed his gratitude for the Kulliyyah for being the finalist on the International Green Gown Awards under Benefiting Society recently and advised the Kulliyyah to work harder in making IIUM as an institution that would bring benefits to the society.

The Rector later highlighted on the importance of the integration of faith, knowledge and good character in order to become agents with comprehensive and balanced progress as well as to ensure sustainable development in Malaysia and the Muslim world.

“Sustainability is not ranking, rather it is about engaging collectively to provide impact to the community,” the Rector stressed.

“Numbers somehow can be important in measuring things, but the result is something that we are looking at as it benefits the society as a whole,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Dean of KAED, Prof. Ar. Abdul Razak Sapian, said that the Kulliyyah is happy to be part of the initiative of being a sustainable institution.

He said the ‘LIGHT’ project is the best example on how local issues were addressed, that gave a huge impact not just locally but also globally.

“We are looking forward to the IIUM Gombak Heritage and Cultural Living Lab through SDG 11, SDG 13 and SDG 15 by breaking the silos in involving students and staff of the Kulliyyah in the project,” he added.***
