GOMBAK, 26 November 2019: Identical twins Che Ku Nor Syahira binti Che Ku Mustafa and Che Ku Nor Syahida binti Che Ku Mustafa, 24, have never been separated since birth as they enrolled the same kindergarten, primary and secondary school and now graduated from the same university with the same degree.

They were among the graduands who received their scrolls during the 35th IIUM Convocation Ceremony on Monday (25 November) They both graduated with the same degree in Bachelor of Arabic Language and Literature (Hons).

Being in IIUM for four years, the twins from Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences have encountered numerous experiences of people mistaking one twin for the other. Lecturers and friends are unable to distinguish which is which but both girls denied that they look very similar.

“I don’t think we look the same since family and close friends can differentiate us very well,” Che Ku Nor Syahida, the younger twin added.

Aked whether rivalry is an obstacle being twins, this 6 minutes apart twins agreed that they do not compete with each other in any matter. They studied separately as that is the preferred method by Che Ku Nor Syahira and Che Ku Nor Syahida.

“Since we are twins and registered the same class for almost every semester, people expect us to study together but we actually do our things separately and we are comfortable with it,” Che Ku Nor Syahira said.

Towards the end of the interview, the twins from Terengganu reminded IIUM students to always respect the educators as they have sacrificed their time and energy to pass the knowledge to the students.

This year’s convocation ceremony has witnessed 5,445 graduates from all kulliyyah being honoured with their respective Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees including 19 special needs scroll receivers and 7 pair of twins. ***
