AMPANG, 15 March 2018: Dressed in Malay traditional costumes two IIUM students showed their enthusiasm in the customary sports by participating in the Open Traditional Archery game at MPAJ Field, Pandan Indah last Sunday  (11 March).

The annual event in conjunction with the car-free day was organised by Archers Studio in collaboration with the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council.

With the aim to increase awareness of society towards traditional archery game and an opportunity to mingle with the archers, the event had drawn 240 participants from around Malaysia equipped with classic archery sets in various traditional outfits.

“It was a satisfaction when my arrows hit the target face as it was difficult,” Izan Nazim from Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL),  in classy baju kurung Pahang, shared her experience.

As a new traditional archer, she admitted that practice was essential as traditional shooting required more focal point rather than recurve bow with sight.

“Training is essential and I need to focus on goal-oriented including setting, creating, recording and reviewing aims,” said Izyan acknowledging that it was applicable to improve her future performance.

“The advantage of traditional archery was on the discipline and the equipment’s special design that makes it hard to be precise,” noted Mohamad Adib Abdullah of Archers Studio, saying that archery is one of the prophet’s Sunah.

The event was officially launched by the president of Ampang Jaya Municipal Council, Tuan Abdul Hamid Hussain at 10 a.m and it ended at 5 p.m after the Olympic round and prize giving for winners of the traditional and barebow categories.***
