GOMBAK, 15 October 2017: A recent visit to IIUM by 26 Media Technology students from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) on Friday (13 October) has sparked greater interest in communication field among the visitors.

Hosted by the Communication Student Association (COSA) together with IIUMToday, COMM TV and IIUM.fm, the visit was aimed at building relationships with UUM students so as to encourage knowledge sharing with each other.

During the visit, the UUM students were taken on the tour of IIUM.fm studio facilities and IIUMToday newsroom to gain exposure on how the campus radio and online news portal are being operated. They also visited the facilities of the recently established COMM TV which is yet to be operational.

According to one of the participants, the one-day visit hosted by COSA has given them a lot of experience and knowledge.

“This visit opens an opportunity for us to know each other and to share knowledge, and this  has indeed exposed us to the operations of the electronic and the printed media that are being taught in IIUM,” said UUM student, Raihan Nuraini Osman.

“We enjoyed this trip as we are now able to compare the differences between IIUM and UUM in terms of studies and facilities,” she added.

Meanwhile, COSA President, Nur Amalia Athira Ahmad Kamal said, “Communication students of IIUM will also get to visit UUM soon and see the media practice in their campus, so that we will be able to promote the spirit of integration with other universities as well as to promote our department.”

She added, “We have also managed to introduce our student societies, namely COSA, Institute of Public Relations Malaysia Student Association (IPRMSA), IIUM.fm, IIUMToday, and COMM TV. Despite time constraints, we managed to organise the programme for the visitors to share our knowledge with them.”

To inculcate greater integration with other universities, COSA hopes to organise more visits to other universities in future to learn from the others, Nur Amelia added. ***
