GOMBAK, 20 September 2017: IIUM team Megalodon has been crowned as champion at Economic and Management Sciences Society (EMMS) Challenge 2017, leading by 77.5 points in the final competition held at ECONS LT2 last week (15 September).
The four-member team consisted of Bachelor of Accounting students – Alla Khairi, Muhammad Isa bin Zainal, Shaik Khalid bin Shaik Hussein and Muhammad Noramiin bin Mohd Tahir – who received RM1,000 cash prize and individual medals.
They told IIUMToday that their victory was unexpected after being defeated twice from previous competitions. Feeling excited and thankful, the members shared their gratitude with Muhammad Noramiin who recruited them to be part of the team.
EMMS Challenge 2017 was held to instill competitive spirits among students, to be able to challenge themselves in solving problems and to be exposed in different field of studies.
Muhammad Isa said the competition has highlighted that there are gaps in their knowledge. Even as a final year KENMS student, there are things that they do not know. œWe never try stock-trading before, we also got to do presentation and business planning, things that we do not do in normal situation and also in assignments. It is quite interesting and very beneficial. It should be continued for the next year and so on, he added.
Team Megalodon shared their upcoming plan to participate in a competition in conjunction with MICPA-CAANZ Accountancy Week, held at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) every year.
Meanwhile, the runner-up for this competition is team DL, consisting of Sara Husna Hamidon, Nur Nadhirah Mohd Suhaimi, Syazwani Fatini Safari and Nur Ezzra Syaniza Sapuan, which gained 55 points.
Ten teams from KENMS and two teams from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) had participated in this one-day competition organised by Economics and Management Sciences Society, IIUM, in collaboration with KENMS (Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences). ***
