GOMBAK, 18 April 2017: A student was rushed to the hospital earlier yesterday morning following an incident that befell him in the compound of Mahallah Zubair at around 3.50 a.m.
It was reported by the victim’s friend that the concrete structure of the Mahallah’s clothes line fell over the victim causing him to suffer injuries.
The victim, Nabhan Farid, was hanging his clothes after doing his laundry when the concrete structure fell upon him.
It was quickly brought to the attention of the Mahallah’s authorities and the victim was quickly taken on an ambulance to Hospital Selayang where he was admitted and underwent further treatment.
The victim was reported to be suffering a broken bone on his right arm along with numbness on his right leg which is expected to take a few months to recover due to severe injuries.
An officer from the office of Occupational Safety, Health and Built Environment Department (OSHBE) was immediately dispatched to the Mahallah following the incident to investigate the structure of the building.
The office claimed there are several factors that could cause the building to be faulty but could not conclude anything due to pending investigation.
In the light of this incident, students have been advised by the authorities to constantly be aware of their surrounding and avoid being around at any places that are potentially risky or dangerous.
Students have also been encouraged to report any faulty structures in IIUM compound that could prove to be dangerous. They were advised to use the proper channel, that is using the Students’ Representatives Council (SRC), so that it would be brought to the attention of the authorities. ***
