GOMBAK, 18 September 2016: A discussion known as Warong: Cerminan Peribadi Mahasiswa focussing on the book written by great Indonesian philosopher Hamka entitled “PERIBADI” was held at HS Square from 5.30 p.m until 6.20 p.m on Thursday (15 September) to inspire students to build a strong identity that could transform them into agents of change for society in the future.
This book was reviewed by Siti Nur Atiqah, a third year communication student.
According to Siti Nur Atiqah, the main objective of this discussion is to explore Hamka’s writing on how he built his personality to became a famous scholar in the hope that this could increase awareness on the role of students as agents of change for society.
In this discussion Atiqah analysed the definition of Peribadi as Akhlak that covered our actions, words and values with other people.
One of the participants, Qamarul Ikhwan, a psychology student, said, “The discussion gave us the opportunity to reflect on the need for a strong identity to be created in us as mentioned by Hamka in his book.
Qamarul added, “I really like the opinion expressed by the presenter. Quoting Hamka’s words, the presenter pointed out the need to be bold in facing challenges without being insane. We need to have the courage in whatever we are doing. What’s exactly meant by Hamka is that we must dare to be brave, but with knowledge. At the end of the day we are expected to be on the right path.” ***
