‘Free Market’, an event benefiting students and staff

GOMBAK, 9 March 2016: Free Market, an event to dispose old stuffs for free for the benefit of others in the university campus had received overwhelming response students and staff.

The event was organised by the Department of Economics and was held at the Kulliyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS) lobby on 4 March 2016 at 3.00-4.00 p.m.

The Free Market event was first suggested by Prof. Dr. Selamah Abdulah Yusof, one of the lecturers at the Department of Economics and was acknowledged.

According to Dr. Izyani Zulkifli, Syed Azmi’s #tamakpahala initiative have been one of their motivation to follow. Their main objective is to give away things that were seldom used as part of services to the community.

Dr.Izyani Zulkifli said, “This event is an opportunity for us to put those things to better use by giving them to others, especially students and IIUM staff and workers who can benefit from them.”

Belongings like textbooks, clothes, shoes, scarfs, bags, women’s accessories, dry food and household items were among those that had been given away. Services like free discussion, entertainment, conversation and haircut were among those offered.

Students were also welcomed to put their belongings they want to give away.

One of the students who benefitted from the event, Fadhli Ahmad said, “It was a great event and I was hoping to have more events like this in the future.”

Many students had turned up on that day and it was considered successful as a number of IIUM students, lecturers and workers had benefitted from the event.***
