GOMBAK, 16 February 2016: Due to economic slowdown and the challenges faced by Malaysia in 2016, the government sector is predicted to freeze job opportunities, while the private sector seems to have high competition for job market.
œIIUM students still have the chance to get a job but it would depend on the courses. Information technology seems to have a high demand and the same goes to business graduates. However, do not look down on your course since there are some other jobs available in the open market such as human resources, said IIUM senior counsellor Saiful Redza Mohamed
Some companies have no issue in taking IIUM graduates since they do not have language problem. A company such as Ekuinas (Ekuiti Nasional Berhad) recently gave positive response and have since targeted more IIUM students to join their company.
œThe current trend nowadays is that the larger companies will find employees from the management training programme usually conducted six months after graduation. Some other companies call this training Young Talent Programme, SL1M (Skim Latihan 1 Malaysia) and Graduate Training Programme, he added.
Students are recommended to sign up for Linked Corporation, a social networking service that focuses more on business. Exposure to job opportunities can be seen through this medium and helps build professional networking around the world from the beginning.
Industries sometimes consider students with high CGPA as not good workers if they do not have skills in communication. A CGPA of 2.7 up to 3.3 is usually preferred by most companies. ***
