GOMBAK, 1 October 2015: A special talk programme on the topic “Nigeria: Problems and Prospects under the Incoming Government” was hosted by IIUM.fm recently.

The guests of the programme were Dr. Abdulhakeem Adejumu and Hassan Nurudeen, the former co-chairperson of Academic and Intellectual Bureau of Student Representative Council, IIUM. Both the speakers were from Nigeria.

The talk was divided into three segments.

The first segment of the programme highlighted the importance of the last presidential election of Nigeria and its impact on the country. Both the guests shared their positive expectations of the new government.

The second part of the programme discussed the incredible and demonic rise of misguided group Boko Haram, which is a militia group based in Northern Nigeria. Dr. Abdulhakeem and Hassan categorised the militia group as a “terrorist” organisation and said that “it has no connection with Islam”.

The last segment concentrated on the future of Nigeria under the newly elected political party, APC, led by President Muhammadu Buhari. The guests aspired that Nigeria would be better off under the new government and expressed the hope that the country would become more prosperous in the coming years.

The host of the programme was Abu Sufian, a post-graduate student at the Department of English Language and Literature.

The programme was produced by communication students who specialised in electronic media that included Ibrahim Mohammad, Zhe Peng, Jood Hawatmeh, Abe Nubhan and Ma Xin.  More talk shows on current global issues, especially relating to the Muslim world, such as the Palestine issue, freedom of speech and Islam, and the conflict in the Middle East, are expected to be produced.

The special interview programme could be heard around the world via online streaming and was also featured on Bangladesh’s prominent news portal BangladeshNews24.com.

The programme was video-taped and later published in Youtube and other social media. The feature article can be read here. ***
