ROADS should not kill or maim. They facilitate living, of moving from one destination to another. As the road system gets better, it should be less dangerous. But not so in Malaysia, where, as the roads improve, the reverse is true of drivers and motorcycle riders. And, festive seasons are when fatality and injury counts go up exponentially, and one such draws nearer ” Hari Raya Aidilfitri ” when the balik kampung exodus gets under way. However, even at the best of times during normal traffic conditions, dying and injuring oneself on Malaysias roads are a daily hazard. Reputedly, the country has one of the most dangerous roads in the world.
