Mission to strengthen bond with Bumi Kenyalang villagers

SERIAN, 26 June 2015: A programme called “Desa Rayang Bumi Kenyalang (RABY) 2.0” was held at Kampung Rudan Rayang, Sarawak by committees of MISI CLUB IIUM in collaboration with Secretariat of English Language Linguistics and Literature IIUM (ELITS) for six days beginning 10 June 2015 with the mission to strengthen the bond between IIUM students and the villagers.

œ This programme also aims to give tutoring especially in the English subject for UPSR students through a slot called English Camp prepared by five representatives of ELITS IIUM with Standard 6 students of Sekolah Kebangsaan St. James, Pedawan. We also conducted many programmes with villagers such as Al-Baghdadi Learning Quran Method, prayer camp, competition for memorising the Quran and Adzan, Gotong-Royong and Sukaneka, said programme manager, Amirullah Zulkifli.

He added that the programme was participated by 16 members of MISI CLUB IIUM and five members of ELITS IIUM. All of the participants had undergone a training camp at IIUM to prepare for the mission.

œOur main focus of this programme is the Shine Project itself with the mission to give tutoring for Standard 6 students of SK St. James in English subject and with Allahs will we will conduct another programme like this focusing on other four subjects of UPSR in the future, Amir added.

He said that this is the second RABY programme as the first one was held in 2012 at Kampung Senah Rayang that is neighbouring Kampung Rudan Rayang.

For villagers, programmes like Al-Baghdadi Learning Quran Method, Prayer Camp, competition of memorising Quran and Adzan, Gotong-Royong and Sukaneka were conducted by the committees with the hope that they give basic knowledge on Islam and its practices.

œWe also conducted Rewang programme to give free food to the villagers of Kampung Rudan Rayang as well as we had also Cultural Night and villagers performed their traditional dances such as langgi, lantong and ngajat tampi and all of us being entertained by these dances, said the Head of Module for RABY, Syazwinnie Omar.

The RABY programme was also supported by many personal contributions and NGOs such as Pusat Perundingan & Pengurusan Al-Azim which gave 50 learning kits for tutoring used in Shine Project, Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU) that provided three vans for committees transportation and the Urusetia Saudara Kita (USK) which served as the link between the RABY team and Kg. Rudan villagers.

MISI Club also planned to do follow up programmes and hoped that the continuation of such programmes will give positive impact for both the RABY committees and all villagers.***
