GOMBAK, 3 December 2025: The IIUM Disability Grand Awareness Campaign (IDGAC) 2025 was launched today by the Dean of AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS), Prof. Dr. Hafiz bin Zakariya in conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (SHAS) Mosque, IIUM Gombak.
Before the launch, a tazkirah titled “Inclusion as Ibadah: A Tawhidic Approach to Empowering Persons with Disabilities in the Madani era” was delivered by the Dean. It highlighted that honouring every human, including disabled persons and all other creatures is also part of ‘ibadah.
According to Prof. Dr. Hafiz, there are proof in today’s world as well as in the course of history of the contributions made by the disabled. For example, Islamic scholar such as Imam at-Tirmidhi who was blind. Nevertheless, he was a respected scholar for his compilation of prominent hadith collection known as Sunan al-Tirmidhi.
The Dean also acknowledged that the test given by Allah to people with disabilities is indeed a challenge. However, he emphasised the importance to put in continuous and strong efforts, alongside with the initiatives by the Disability Services Unit (DSU) to support the disabled students.
Adam bin Ahmad Afif, the Programme Manager, said that this campaign which runs annually, will last for two weeks until 20 December 2025. Among the activities under this campaign are talks and booths.
