Think about the situation that happened around us with a variety of allegations, especially when hit by natural disasters. The cause of the disaster itself, as we all know, can be attributed to two aspects.
Firstly, it is evidence of the divine power of God or in other words, the œact of God, Who created the earth as stated in Al Quran in Surah Al-Imran verse 109 œTo Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And to Allah will [all] matters be returned.”
Secondly, it is obviously from the default attitude of human beings as the khalifah towards environmental responsibility itself. Each of us should remember that the earth is the responsibility of all of us together, especially in maintaining the stability of the earth needs. However, for us Malaysians, we are indeed feeling truly thankful because we are free from natural disasters such as earthquakes but the landslides and floods are not something new for us.
The massive flood in Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu at the end of last year (2014) has left a deep impression and indeed was a heartbreaking situation for all of us, Malaysians. Since the incident is still recent for us, everything is still ringing in our minds, all the pictures and views of the heartbreaking scenes perfectly screened in our minds.
Also, like the Tsunami in Aceh in 2004, which also brought indirect impact on Malaysia whereby Batu Feringhi in Penang was also hit by the large waves and caused fatalities to our people. And not to forget, the landslide that wiped away the Highland Tower, Bukit Antarabangsa, a couple of years ago that killed almost the entire residents of the apartment. This is all clearly beyond our power and we never can be prepared as we never know when and how it would happen.
Based on observations on natural disaster situations, it can be said that we are very rich with the help of all the parties and they come in various forms and ways. This is enough to prove that each of us is always together and shares the grief and has also proven that our sensitivity to the needs of those affected are very high. For instance, referring to the massive flood in Kelantan recently, various forms of immediate assistance were channeled in any possible way, by all means. The food, clothing, medical needs, protection needs, were all under good observation and supervision, and taken seriously by all parties.
And the most recent incident was the earthquake that hit Nepal, India. It is reported that this is among the worst earthquakes after 80 years. It was reported that around 3,000 were killed and more than 9,000 injured. Indeed, the natural disaster is something beyond our control and inventory.
For us who are not directly affected by the natural disaster and may not have experienced any sort of disaster before, it does not mean we cannot be affected at all. However, this is not a reason for us just to remain silent on what had happened. Various forms of assistance can be channeled even though they may not be in material forms. Sometimes we seem to forget that even good words which inspire, motivate and strengthen the spirit, and also among the most effective forms of assistance.
This is because for them to continue their lives after a big loss, really needs strengths of emotional control. We may also show our concerns through involvement in the field of humanitarian aid. The fact is that communication through sincere heart is equally inspiring. ***
