GOMBAK, 7 March 2015: IIUM SPORT CARNIVAL ’15 (ISC ’15) was held at the Saidina Hamzah Stadium and it has been organised by a collaboration of each Mahallah Representative Committee and Student’s Affairs and Development Division (STADD). There were 23 competitions including men and women categories. After all the hard work and dedication of the students, they finally reached to the finals where the best met the best from each Mahallah.
The objective of this event was to make students more active in sports and to test the limitation of speed, stamina, and mental of students. One of committee members, Zahier stated, “This event is not about winning, it is about existing the spirit of unity, teamwork with each other and success together.”
The event was divided into two sessions, morning and evening. The competitions were taken to morning session was 3000 meter, javelin, discuss throw, long jump, 800 meter and shot putt.
The first competition was 3000 meter in men category. There were 23 people who competed and only 5 were chosen to be winners. The first place went to Omar Ahmed Abdi Essa representing Mahallah Bilal. This was followed with second place, Mohammed Abdirahman Mohammad also represented Mahallah Bilal, the third place went to Ahmed Wafi, the forth and fifth place places went to Muhammad Amirul Asyraff Sakri’ and Muhammad Arif respectively. It was an easy win for Omar but it was an intense battle for the third place between Wafi and Amirul. One of the winners, Wafi said: “It is how you control your stamina to keep it consistent and know your limit by keeping to the challenge yourself, that is the key of winning.”
In the afternoon, the event continued with the Prize Giving Ceremony to all the winners for morning session competition by Dr Haji Basri Bin Haji Hassan as Director of ISC 2015.
At 2.00 p.m, the evening session began, with 400 meter, 200 meter, 100 meter, 500 meter, 4 x 100 meter and for the last competition of the day was 4 x 400 meter. Although the weather was extremely hot, but that was not going to stop the blazing spirit for students to compete with each other to reach their winnings for their Mahallah.
The crowd also showed great support for their team. One of the participants, Amira Radiah said: “Thank you to the audiences for giving us support to get our head in the game.”
The most epic scene of the day starting at 3.30 p.m when the heat stopped but continued with heavy rain for the 4 x 100 meter and 4 x 400 meter competitions.
The 4 x 100 meter in women category winner was Mahallah Salahudin. The second place was won by Mahallah Safiyyah, and the third place was Mahallah Haleemah.
There was an intense battle for the first place in 4 x 100 meter women category between Mahallah Salahudin and Mahallah Safiyyah. The next 4 x 100 meter was the man category winner, Mahallah Faruq, followed by Mahallah Siddiq and the third was  Mahallah Salahudin.
All the participants and students were giving their best of potential to play and support each other, eventhough they came from different Mahallah.
At the end of the day, Hafiz Jailani the Programme Manager became the VIP for the Prize Giving Ceremony, by giving medals to all the winners for the evening session. “We are very proud for every participant who has showed us his or her effort to win the competition even some of them were defeated. But it is okay because this is a game that everyone should enjoy, ” said Nazrin who was one of the audience.***
