GOMBAK, 26 February 2015: The hockey team from Mahallah Hafsah is currently training and gearing up for the Inter-Mahallah Sport Carnival (ISC) that will be held on 2 March at Female Sport Complex, IIUM.
The players had been selected according to their skills and stamina such as how they hit and flick the ball as well as their movement around the field.
Mahallah Hafsahs hockey team captain, Nur Anati binti Mohamad Saufee said: œOverall in this team, there are 11 players but for this competition, only seven people will be playing as the key players and the other four people will be for reserve.
Since this is the first time she leads the team, she is not expecting too much but she hopes the team can win the competition as they have to compete with five other teams from different Mahallah namely Nusaibah, Asiah, Halimah, Safiyyah and Salahuddin.
œMost of the players give their commitment as they always practice together every Monday until Thursday, in the evening and at night and fortunately some of them already have the basic skills. Plus, there are three Mustang members in this team, so I hope we can win the game,” Nur Anati said.
œThe strategy is decided by the coach since I am not an expert in this game, but it would be a secret, she added.
There is a plan to build up a new hockey team for IIUM Mustang after the competition as Nur Anati said, œFrom the ISC, we hope to see potential players who we can train more in the future and absorb them into Mustang. That is why we work hard to train them for this game, not only Hafsah team but also teams from other Mahallah.
Hence, if Hafsah team wins this competition, she expects the players to remain as a team with the hope that in the future they can represent Hafsah for the next ISC. Yet she advised her team mates to give full commitment and have an excellent team work in order to bring the team forward.
Nur Anati also hoped that ISC will be organised for every semester. She said, œFor me ISC is a good platform for the students to show their hidden skills in sports.
“Moreover, sports are important for students in order to have a healthy life style apart from studying in class,” she claimed.***
