Due to the delay of PTPTN loan to be credited into students accounts and the confession of several students about their inability to buy food due to financial problem, SRC has launched I-FOR (IIUM Students for Food Relief) as an alternative to help these students.
œFood should be distributed to the students who are really in need especially for the PTPTN borrowers, said Chairperson of Welfare Secretariat SRC 14/15, Mohd Solihin bin Che Rozali. He also emphasised the target to increase awareness of showing care towards friends who are in difficulties.
Concerned in a similar way about this issue, second-year student of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL) who only wanted to be known as Nasrullah (22) also highlighted the importance of showing care towards their brothers and sisters.
œFriends should make sense of their friends condition, he told IIUMToday while at the same time supporting I-FOR project led by SRC to manage the meals in every café and mahallah.
This student-based charity project cooperated with welfare bureau of each Kulliyyah-Based Society (KBS), Mahallah Representative Council (MRC) and IIUM students had also grabbed the attention of IIUMs lecturers.
œLecturers from different kulliyyah have gathered their money to help the students, said Mr Ekmal, the owner of Grazie A Studio located at Education Building Cafeteria. Recently, collaboration has been made between him and several lecturers to distribute RM5 food coupon for students in needed at his café. Mr Ekmal also expressed his feeling of gratitude towards the commendable effort labored by the lecturers to help the students.
œI-FOR received a wide coverage from all over Malaysia including from the alumni of IIUM, residence around Gombak, and the residence in state outside Selangor, said the SRCs representative, Solihin while adding that a second wave will be launched as to empower the humanity project in IIUM until the end of their tenure.
œThe SRCs President (Hanif Mahpa) believes that students institution will be stronger and more independent if we trust that a real change will happen from our own hands. If we care about our brothers and sisters who are in difficulties, we will work on giving a helping hand.***
