Muslims have used social media network to positively reclaim the image of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which has been the subject of debate in the tragic attack on Charlie Hebdo in Paris on 7 January. In an attempt to highlight the Prophets teachings in a wider context, Muslims and those standing in solidarity with them posted a status using ˜#WhoIsMuhammad.
The hashtag of ˜Who Is Muhammad has now become trending all over the social media networking sites including Facebook and Instagram.
Muslims around the world are using Twitter to reassert the image of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the wake of the recent Charlie Hebdo shooting.
Despite the good intention of the hashtag, there are some who use it as the means to provoke the Muslims. The misuse of the hashtag is nothing but an act of ignorance. Nevertheless, the effort that Muslims all over the globe put to propagate the good image of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has prevailed the solidarity among them.
Following the recent terror attacks in Paris, where gunmen ” claiming to be defending the honour of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ” killed 17 people, the debate over what the true meaning of Islam has once again resurfaced. The shooting has sparked a global debate on whether the act of freedom of speech is relevant or not and what guideline should it be for the act and all the consequences.***
