GOMBAK, 24 December 2014: Second-year Communication student, Izzuddeen Redzuan, was named the winner for the Syed Arabi Award, the Special Award for journalistic writing for online bulletin IIUMToday, while another third year Communication student (public relations specialised), Wan Eizzul Wan Zulkifli (Head Producer), won the Special Award for IIUM.fm.

The journalism and broadcasting awards were created to recognise students contribution and achievement and to appreciate their active participation in the online bulletin and the Internet campus radio. The awards were intended to serve as incentives and encouragement for students involved in both media.

IIUMToday and IIUM.fm have been established to provide a platform for Communication students specialising in journalism, electronic media and public relations to acquire experience and gain exposure in the respective field. Both the bulletin and the radio programmes are accessible to readers and listeners throughout the world.

The other categories of the journalism award and the winners were Best News Reporter (Shazni Ong), Best Feature Writer (Maryam Spahic), BusyBee Award (Nurman Lazim), Promising Reporter (Zulhamka Rosli), and Best Coordinator (Shawal Rashid).

For IIUM.fm, other categories of awards were created with Syuhada winning the Best Producer award, DJ Qistina for Best Presenter, DJ Kautsar for Best Promising Presenter, DJ Miza for Best Programme (Brain Freeze) and DJ Fauzan and DJ Faizul for Best Programme (Islam Demystified).

The winners received special frames with their respective photos embedded in the frames plus certificates of appreciation from Prof. Dato Seri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid, former IIUM rector and a senior professor, at the dinner held at Restoran Puteri in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail recently.

The dinner was also held to celebrate the birth of both IIUMToday and IIUM.fm. which was attended by a total of 70 students and Communication lecturers, including the Head of Communication Department, Dr. Zeti Azreen Ahmad, the coordinator for IIUMToday, Dr. Aini Maznina A. Manaf, and the lecturer in charge of IIUM.fm, Dr. Shafizan Mohamed.

Even though IIUMToday has just started recently and has been running for only eight months since its launching in April this year, there has been great progress made by the online bulletin under the able stewardship of Dr. Aini Maznina.

Under the guidance of Dr. Shafizan Mohamed, IIUM.fm has made tremendous progress in terms of the programme contents and broadcast interviews through active participation by students not only those specialising in the electronic media but also from other specialisations like public relations, organisational communication and journalism.***
