GOMBAK: The final examination is just around the corner and IIUM students only have about two weeks or less to make preparation for the exam. The students are advised to follow the rules and regulations provided by IIUM management in order to avoid any problem occurring during examination period.
It happens every year during the examination period that students are punished due to various misconducts during examination, such as bringing handphones or notes to the examination hall.
There are rules regarding academic misconduct being highlighted by the University’s management such as:
Rule 6 (2) e of the Student’s Discipline Rules 2004 (Amendment 2006): ‘No Student shall use or be in possession of material in any form during the examination which in the opinion of the University is used for cheating’.
Rule 65 of the Student’s Discipline Rules 2004 (Amendment 2006): ‘A student who is found guilty of a disciplinary offence shall be liable to any of (1) or any appropriate combination of two or more of the following punishments:
a) reprimand;
b) a fine not exceeding Ringgit Malaysia Two Hundred (RM200.00);
c) community service as specified by the University;
d) exclusion from any part or parts of the University for a specified period;
e) suspension from being a student of the University for a specified period; and
f) expulsion from the University’
As far as mandatory punishment for academic misconduct, the Senate on 27 September 2013 had endorsed the mandatory punishments for academic misconduct as follows:
a) punishment for cheating shall be an expulsion
b) punishment for attempted cheating shall be a minimum suspension of one semester
c) punishment for bringing in unauthorised item/ notes is fine of RM200.00
Please be reminded that, last-minute studies does not help neither ‘burning the midnight oil’. It will just make us weary and lose our concentration during the examination.
The students are advised to prepare for the final examination using the following tips:
a) give yourself enough time to study
b) practice previous years exam papers
c) organize study groups with friends
d) plan your exam day
e) take care of our health condition
