The Islamic Revealed Knowledge Society Secretariat (IRKSS) had successfully launched their very first RK Festival 2014 last night.

The official launching ceremony took place at the Economics building and was attended by nearly 100 students from the Islamic Revealed Knowledge departments.

The launch also featured a motivational talk session on ‘Ibrah Surah Yusuf’ by guest speaker, Ustaz Syaari Abdul Rahman.

In his opening speech, brother Ahmad Fuad bin Mohd Zani, Chairman of IRKHSS, addressed the nature of the RK Festival.

Held over a period of five days with six sub-programmes coordinated throughout the period, the theme of this year’s RK Festival is “Let’s Discover the Beauty of Da’wah.”

True to the essence of its theme, the RK Festival aims to highlight the various methods and discussions that ought to broaden the scope of da’wah.

Second year Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion student, Nor Sakinah Wan Lin relates the theme of the festival to a kind of revolution and reformation of da’wah that is very much needed in order to make it more effective and relevant to today’s society.

Dr Miszairi Sitiris, who later officiated the event, praised the interesting and highly beneficial topics that have been selected to feature in the RK Festival.

He believes that the IIUM community will be able to gain different inputs in approaching da’wah.

Nur Shafiqah Mohd Aliff, Vice Chairman of IRKHSS, explained that the objective of the RK Festival is to show how strategic and systematic da’wah is and how it can be used to address various issues that are present in various communities.

She further added that the RK Festival aims to reach the IIUM community at large so that students can learn and contribute to not only the IIUM or Muslim society, but to the non-Muslims as well.

The event continued with a motivational talk on ‘Ibrah Surah Yusuf’ by Ustaz Syaari Abdul Rahman.

In his talk, Ustaz Syaari presented the different phases of Prophet Yusuf (a.s.)’s story as narrated in the Qur’an. He said that the different elements and perspectives that are contained in the surah reflected the many lessons that can be derived from it.

He related the perseverance of Prophet Yusuf alaihisalam in the series of challenges that he faced as an example of complete faith in the taqdir determined by Allah.

Everything happens for a reason, he said, adding that there are no accidental matters if you have faith in God.

IRKHSS would like to extend their invitation to all students and staff of IIUM to come and join the RK Festival.

Family members and friends are also invited to participate in the upcoming events that will be held throughout the week.
