GOMBAK, 3 November 2014: The Speakers’ Corner of the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL), aimed to encourage students and staff to share their thoughts and deliver speeches on issues related to their studies of the faculty, law and justice, was launched today by the President of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), Tan Sri Dr. Rais Yatim.

The Speakers’ Corner is placed at the faculty’s cafeteria.

“Indeed, we admit the Speaker’s Corner is introduced by the west, but it has become one of the adoptions of democracy, so we accept it with an open heart,” Tan Sri Rais said.

“However, we want to remind every one to use this facility with caution, responsibility and understanding that not everyone in this country or in the world is free from rules,” he told reporters after the launching.

Also present were the Dean of AIKOL, Prof. Hunud Abia Kadouf and IIUM Rector, Prof. Datuk Sri Dr Zaleha Kamaruddin.

Tan Sri Rais also said the orator must respect the law regarding defamation suit, sedition or anything related to national security.

“If someone is using the platform with caution, I believe what is given by the university can be utilised to the fullest,” he said.***
