Despite being listed high in the obesity rank in Asia, Malaysians accept the challenge of their inner self to be fitter, stronger and healthier by participating in FitMalaysia Run and turning towards a healthy life.

Organised and directed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on 7 September 2014, FitMalaysia aimed to promote fun in being healthy, in line with the philosophy and strategy for Malaysia to gradually evolve into a sporting nation.

The man of the day, Khairy Jamaluddin as the Minister of Youth and Sports also joined the crowd in a variety of sports and fitness activities.

“It doesn’t matter how long it takes for me to do FitMalaysia,  I’m willing to go down all over the country, not only in Kuala Lumpur, to make sure that Malaysians will be fitter, stronger and healthier, for a sporting nation. Thank you for taking part in this event,” he said after officially launching FitMalaysia and shouting “Malaysia Boleh” three times.

The event, trending in various social media (#FitMalaysia), was also joined by students from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

“I’ve been looking forward for this event since it’s launched in Twitter few months back. It is time for our generation to start living a healthier lifestyle and fight the nightmare of being an obese,” said Syafik, a student from the Kulliyyah of Engineering (KOE).

Aside of the FitMalaysia Run, there are also FitMalaysia Ride, Team Malaysia Fans Run, Self Defence Zone, Extreme Zone and Fitness Zone.

The next events will take place in Dataran Pahlawan, Melaka on 14 September, and in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on 21 September.
