Preparing yourselves to face reality out there

By Nanauzir

Next semester will be my final stay in IIUM. I still remember, 4 years ago when my friends and I were so excited to finish our undergraduate program so that we could hunt for jobs to get a better life.  How time flies! The semester break is almost coming to an end. That means it will be our final battle to obtain a good CGPA. This is not what I am worried about though. What I am scared about is how to prepare myself for post-grad life.

Recently, I have had some conversations with seniors who have graduated and asked for some tips. I will share with you here.

First and foremost, know yourself. You have to indulge your time alone because it is very crucial for someone to know himself or herself better. For some people who do not like to be alone, it takes a lot of courage to do so. But it’s okay. By doing this, one will surely find happiness of his or her own.

Next is to grab whatever chances. As we know, there are limited offers for fresh graduates like us, so do not be picky. Grab any offer that comes and do our best. Those who succeed will say, do something to push yourself because as a person sometimes we do not know our potential. Do not be afraid of failure.

Despite of loitering around our old frat house, this is the time for you to figure out how to swing travel. If you’re a male, now is the best time for backpacking! And if you are a woman, better find a group of people who are willing to travel together. The lessons we glean from travel, while away from family and friends, are essential to figure out of yourself and your life.

Lastly, do not let other people’ thoughts be the only driving factor in our final decision. We can surely ask for their opinions, but we know ourselves better.  Therefore, we should know what is the best for our future. Anyway, we still have time to prepare for what we are going to do after graduating! Good luck dear fellas!
