As an undergrad who is always discreet to choose the right career in future I can become overwhelmed with the volume of information that is available from the Internet, books, magazines, etc. Im sure you feel the same way.
After seeing the amount of the salary thats offered to fresh graduates, it makes you excited isnt it? And that is not all, what if you get an offer with high salary at a place near your hometown and its a skyscraper office? Wow! We all want that kind of job but are we really in the right path? Are we qualified for such position?
The œIIUM IRK and Human Sciences Career Stories “ Preparing You for The Real World is a blog with a collection of successful stories of IRKHS alumni in the working fields. I believe this is one of the great offerings from alumni for the present IRKHS undergrads. Thank you beloved seniors.
It was created and administered by Mohd Nadzrin Wahab and his fellow IRKHS graduates, to showcase their career stories as well as providing some guidance in choosing the right career afterwards and sharing their experiences in the working fields.
The website was originally proposed by Mohamed Syairoz Mohd Odman and Sharifah Syahirah to him as he was invited as a panel in the œForum for Future Career later on September 9th, 2014 at Centre for Foundation Studies, Petaling Jaya.
After the soft-launching of this blog, more alumni submitted their career stories. In this way, undergrads will get to know what kind of career opportunities exist out there for them.
Somehow, their stories give an inspiration and motivation to the undergrads. Well, thanks again seniors. One of the great things about this blog is that it shows you several different ways to access the stories and pretty good advices.
Hence, how to use this blog?
Each career story is written by a different contributor and answers basic questions such as their major and specialisation and experience questions such as the challenges they faced and what advice they would give to their juniors if they had the chance.
On the sidebar, you will find four blocks titled “Career Stories By… You may access the stories relevant to you in five ways:
- Select a story by the author’s degree program (e.g. Communication, Psychology, Political Science and etc.)
- Select a story by the author’s year of graduation
- Select a story by the author’s current career field (e.g. Education, Management, Broadcasting and etc.)
- Select a story by the author’s name
- Email the author by contacting them at the provided address at the end of their story. Though, not all authors will volunteer their contact information.
The œIIUM IRK and Human Sciences Career Stories “ Preparing You for The Real World is a valuable resource for future IRKHS graduates and helps them be aware of the breadth of opportunities available for new graduates. They aim to get 100 career stories for graduates by the end of 2014.
Mohd Nadzrin Wahab sums it up in the blog, œWe will not abandon you. Many of us have included our contact information at the end of our career stories, so I suggest you reach out to us. Be courteous, be polite and above all, be serious about how we can help you.
