2024 Wrapped Up: IIUMToday Reflects on a Remarkable Year of Achievements

GOMBAK, 25 January 2025: As 2024 ended, IIUMToday looks back on a year filled with significant events, enriching experiences, and remarkable accomplishments.

In 2024, the IIUMToday team took its journalism and event organising skills to new levels with a series of impactful initiatives and coverage of key events as follows: 

IIUMToday 10th Anniversary: IIUMToday celebrated its 10th Anniversary, and marked its first time organizing a program. This celebration had brought together IIUM students, staff, and alumni to commemorate IIUMToday and its contributions to the IIUM community. The event featured a variety of activities, including a forum by experts titled, “The Arts of News Writing in the Digital Age.” The forum involved two prominent guests, Chief Content Officer, from Star Media Group Berhad, Datin Paduka Esther Ng and Content Editor of Bernama.com at the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Mr. Mohd. Razman Abdullah moderated by Social Media IIUMToday Mainboard, Shafiy Nordin.

IIUMToday Media Attachment: A highlight of the year was a visit to the Communications and

Content Code Training Session with Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF) where team members gained deeper insights into media practices and essential knowledge and skills for them to adhere to media content standards and regulations mentioned in the Content Code.

IIUM 40th Convocation News coverage: IIUMToday journalists had written 62 news articles on the convocation, showcasing their dedication to capturing every aspect of the significant event. This memorable achievement marks a key accomplishment for IIUMToday.

News Training by Experts: News Training by Experts” was conducted via Zoom, featuring key insights from an industry professional from Sputnik International News Agency and attended by journalists from IIUMToday, IIUM students and staff. The speaker for the session was Head of Sputnik International and Sputnik India, Victoria Polikarpova. This marks IIUMToday’s first news training with an expert from abroad, highlighting an exciting opportunity to learn from a distinguished professional outside of Malaysia.

Student Union Election: IIUMToday journalists played a key role in covering the Student Union Election, writing up the manifestos of candidates and reporting on the appointment of its new president.

KIRKHSSS Election: IIUMToday journalists played an active role in covering the election, writing up reports on the voting process and the outcomes. They diligently carried out their responsibilities, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the entire event.

Jelajah Hawana 2024:  Two representatives from IIUMToday attended Jelajah Hawana 2024 at UKM, celebrating National Journalist Day. The event offered IIUMToday members a chance to connect with industry professionals and fellow journalists, further strengthening their passion for journalism and media.

Events coverage: The journalists of IIUMToday cover many other events, programmes and festivals such as KAEDFEST2024, GARIIF2024, SOCARNIVAL2024, and others. Showcasing their ability to capture the vibrancy and diversity of IIUM’s campus life. These events allowed IIUMToday to engage with a wide range of topics, from cultural festivals to academic activities, providing comprehensive and timely coverage that resonated with the student body and the broader IIUM community

Hence, as 2024 has ended, IIUMToday reflects on a year of remarkable growth, impactful coverage, and valuable learning experiences. IIUMToday continues to serve as a vital platform for students to learn, share, and contribute to the dynamic world of media, journalism and communication. Looking forward, the team remains committed to upholding the core values of ethical journalism while embracing new challenges and opportunities in the ever-evolving media landscape.
