GOMBAK, 6 January 2024: Recently, the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) held its 40th convocation ceremony from 16 to 20 November celebrating the achievements of its graduates. Among the key contributors to the event’s success was IIUMTV, that provided live coverage of the convocation. One of the IIUMTV committees, Janani Arifah binti Mohamed Jalaludeen, shared her journey as a host for the event, offering insights into her experience and efforts behind the scenes.

Janani, a third-year Communication student from AHAS KIRKHS, served as Assistant Director 2 while also hosting the live broadcast of the convocation ceremony. She shared that her experience in 2024 was smoother compared to her debut in 2023. Feeling more confident and prepared, she credited her improved performance to the lessons learned from the previous year.

This year’s broadcast introduced a balanced bilingual approach, with equal focus on English and Malay. Janani explained that this adjustment was made to better connect with a diverse audience, including parents and graduates, ensuring that everyone could fully engage with the ceremony.

“Last year, we focused more on English medium than the Malay medium but this year we focused on both to make it balanced,” she explained.

A significant improvement in this year’s live coverage was the inclusion of a wider range of special guests. Janani shared that the IIUMTV team managed to secure interviews with deans from various Kulliyyahs, including Kulliyyah of Engineering and AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, as well as valedictorian speakers.

Janani credited the event’s success to the tireless efforts of the entire IIUMTV crew. She highlighted the contributions of various divisions, including the technical, public relations, social media, and camera teams, all of whom worked seamlessly to ensure the convocation’s coverage was a memorable one.

For Janani, the camaraderie among the IIUMTV crew stood out as one of the most special aspects of the experience. “Special moments that I can say is the bonding from the TV crews themselves, they have done such a great job and without the efforts from each one of them, the live convocation ceremony might not be as good as what it was,” she remarked.

Janani’s journey as a host highlights the dedication and teamwork of the IIUMTV crew, showing how their hard work contributes to creating even better broadcasts in the years to come.***
