GOMBAK, 13 January 2024 – Muhammad Muslim bin Mohammad Radzuan, a third-year LLB student at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), had been elected as the new president of the IIUM Law Students’ Society (LAWSOC) recently. At just 21 years old, Muhammad Muslim enters his new position with numerous areas of expertise and a deep passion for student advocacy.
In an exclusive interview with IIUMToday, Muslim shared his motivations and plans for his tenure. “What inspired me to run for this position was my deep passion for serving the student society and creating impactful changes within the Kulliyyah and AIKOLians,” he said. His prior experiences in leadership and event management have equipped him with essential skills to enhance students’ experiences at AIKOL.
Additionally, Muslim emphasized the importance of collaboration with other Kulliyyahs to foster unity and cross-disciplinary learning. “I aim to work with other Kulliyyahs to organize joint events, such as forums, workshops, or Mock Trials that address issues like justice, ethics, and societal development,” he explained. These initiatives are designed to broaden students’ perspectives alongside encouraging networking and teamwork across different Kulliyyahs.
His manifesto included enhancing student welfare by making the Student Activity Centre (SAC) in AIKOL a more welcoming lounge area for students. Additionally, he plans to create skill-building opportunities through various workshops. To achieve these goals, Muhammad Muslim intends to work closely with the Management Committees of LAWSOC, establish clear timelines, and allocate responsibilities effectively. Collaborating with external organizations and the AIKOL Alumni Wing (AAW) will also be crucial in providing resources and expertise.
Transparency and accountability are key pillars of a Muslim’s leadership approach. He plans to maintain open communication channels through regular reports, meetings, and updates on social media. A structured reporting system will be implemented to ensure all board members, including himself, share updates and justify their actions.
Promoting ethical standards within the law society is another priority for Muslim. He aims to lead by example, emphasizing professionalism, respect, and fairness in all society activities. Workshops and discussions on ethics, including the role of integrity in legal practice, will be organized to instill these values among members. Clear guidelines on conduct will be shared to ensure everyone understands their responsibilities.
In addressing any ethical breaches or misconduct, Muhammad Muslim plans to implement a clear procedure to handle complaints with confidentiality and fairness. An ethics committee consisting impartial members and Mainboards will be formed to investigate and recommend appropriate actions.
To ensure effective communication and feedback from students, Muhammad Muslim will prioritize maintaining an approachable and open communication style. Regular surveys, feedback forms, and suggestion boxes (both online and physical) will be utilized to gather students’ input. Social media platforms will also be used for quick and effective communication.
With a clear vision and a strong commitment to enhance students’ experience, Muhammad Muslim is set to lead the IIUM Law Students’ Society towards a promising future.
