GOMBAK,18 November 2024: A memorable moment was witnessed in the 40th IIUM Convocation Ceremony at IIUM Gombak on 17 November when one of the IIUM graduands, Mukhlis Bin Zambry, was conferred the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree by his own father who is no other than the Malaysian Minister of Higher Education (MOHE), Senator Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry bin Abdul Kadir. It was not a scene that happened everyday.
Thus, it attracted the audiences’ attention and they gave both father and son a big round of applause and cheers when witnessing the special occasion. Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry expressed his happiness upon witnessing his son’s achievement first hand, and congratulated all graduates for their hard work and patience, through his speech.
The MOHE Minister also emphasized in his speech that the graduates must be thankful to their parents because their support and sacrifices have enabled them to achieve. He also stated that they must respect and appreciate their parents as it is with their blessings that the graduates have become successful. This is indeed useful advice for all IIUM graduates and students at the IIUM.
Indeed Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry is loyal to the IIUM brand as not only is he an alumnus of the university, his five children and son-in-law are also alumni of the IIUM.
Parents play a special role in our life and IIUM graduates should be grateful for getting their parents’ support. It is after all our moral obligation to treat our parents well as mentioned in the Qur’an (Surah An-Nisa 4:36): “And worship Allah and do not set up any partners with Him. And treat the parents with moral excellence.”***
