GOMBAK, 19 October 2024: In the fourth session of the 40th IIUM Convocation at IIUM Gombak on 18 November, a graduate of the Kulliyyah of Medicine, Nur Nabilah Binti Mohd Zamrisham was awarded Best Student (Overall).

In an exclusive interview with IIUMToday, Nabilah reflected on her journey at the IIUM and how it shaped her academic success. Nabilah’s journey at the IIUM taught her the values of humility and kindness, shaping her belief that true success can only be achieved by helping others.

Nabilah said, “The IIUM has always been my dream university, and it is an honour to have studied here. The IIUM not only offers worldly knowledge but also provides a wealth of religious and ethical teachings that has helped me grow into a better person.”

Nabilah chose to study medicine as it is a noble profession and there is great satisfaction that comes with serving others. She said, “Although the field is challenging and it comes with many difficulties, hearing someone thank me for helping him or her brings a sense of relief, and it motivates me to continue helping others.”

Like many others Nabilah’s journey was not without its own challenges. One of the biggest challenges she faced was her struggle with feelings of inadequacy and comparing herself to others, but she did not let these negative feelings hold her back and instead she faced her fears head on. She took a positive approach to overcome these fears, focusing her energy on personal growth and self-improvement. She dedicated herself to improving her knowledge and working hard, which helped her transform the insecurities into opportunities.

With this milestone, Nabilah now looks forward to pursuing her housemanship. Her ambition is to one day become a physician and a clinical lecturer. ***
