The Master of Management Program at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) held a workshop titled, “Sharia Marketing in Tourism,” on Saturday, October 5, 2024. The event was attended by around 50 participants, including academics and tourism industry practitioners.
The workshop featured keynote speaker, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aida Mokhtar, a communication expert from the International Islamic University Malaysia. In her presentation, she discussed relevant and practical Sharia marketing strategies in the context of tourism, highlighting how Sharia principles can be utilized to attract tourists, particularly from Muslim-majority countries.
Dr. Ahmad Nizam, a lecturer in the USK Master of Management program who also served as the event facilitator, ensured that the discussions were interactive and productive. During the discussion session, participants had the opportunity to engage directly with the speaker and exchange ideas on the challenges and opportunities in Sharia tourism marketing. Topics covered included Sharia product innovation, Sharia branding, and the importance of building trust and a positive image among consumers.
Participants were also provided with case studies and best practices from various successful Sharia tourism destinations. This is expected to serve as a reference for the development of tourism in Indonesia, particularly in Aceh.
With the organization of this workshop, the USK Master of Management Program, which has earned excellent accreditation, is committed to supporting the sustainable and diversity-oriented development of Sharia tourism. This event is an important step in fostering closer collaboration between academia and industry, as well as strengthening international networks in research and knowledge development.***
