IMC Exhibition: ‘Resilience is important,’ says Kampung Kerdas Village Head, in opening

GOMBAK, 29 May: ‘Resilience’ is an important ingredient of a good entrepreneur, mentioned the Village Head of Kampung Kerdas, Tok Nasaruddin bin Darwis in the opening of the Exhibition on Empowering Local Entrepreneurs in Gombak that was organized by Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) students and the Communication Students’ Association (COSA) at HS Square, IIUM Gombak, today. The event was conducted in collaboration with nine local businesses in Gombak whose IMC campaigns were assisted by the students throughout the semester.

The opening ceremony was held at HS Seminar Room from 9 am until 10 am. The ceremony started with the arrival of VIPS, Dean of AHAS KIRKHS, Prof. Dr. Shukran bin Abd Rahman; Head of Kampung Kerdas, Gombak, Tok Nasaraddin bin Darwis; Deputy Dean of Student Development and Community Engagement, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Noh bin Abdul Jail; Head, Department of Communication, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tengku Siti Aisha binti Tengku Azzman and finally, Head, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rohaiza binti Abd. Rokis, The ceremony was then followed by an opening speech from the emcee and the dua’ recitation. 

During the welcoming remarks, Program Manager of the event, Sr. Anis Ayuni Mohd Zaidi, had given a brief overview of the program and conveyed that the event is to celebrate the spirit of entrepreneurship that was related to what IMC students had learned in the course. The event also gives an opportunity for them to build networks and the chance to socialize and improve their communication skills.  

It was also highlighted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aida in her welcoming remark, that the event is to help the entrepreneurs of Kampung Kerdas expand their businesses. 

Prof. Dr. Shukran informed the audiences of the history of the Syngerised Academic Activity, of which the IMC course is part of, in relation to the Gombak project initiated by the IIUM Rector. Tok Nasaruddin, conveyed his gratitude to AHAS KIRKHS academics and students, on behalf of Kampung Kerdas, for conducting the exhibitionin, his officiating speech. He focused on the importance of having resilience in entrepreneurship.

The closing ceremony of the exhibition had a speech by Program Manager II, Loukman Faisol, who touched on the good work being done by the IMC students.

Hopefully, as an outcome of the exhibition, more students and other people will support local businesses in Gombak after this. ***
