GOMBAK, 17 May 2024: Tunas Alumni Club and Alumni Relations Division hosted an event called 60 Minutes with Alumni and this event took place in the Main Auditorium of the IIUM. The event program featured IIUM’s alumni who have succeeded and helped to motivate students while also providing career guidance.

In his welcoming speech, the President of Tunas Alumni Club, Br. Wan Alif Haikal spoke about the vision of Tunas Alumni Club which is to be a student body that emphasises on the linkages with the alumni to ensure strong engagement with them even after the alumni have graduated from the IIUM.

œ60 Minutes with Alumni is a platform that invites the IIUM alumni to share their experiences and engage with IIUM students so that they could be mentors for them in order to become more wholesome individuals, students with good characters and build up their competencies and skills, remarked the Director of Alumni Relations Division, Br. Ilmyzat Ismail. He also conveyed his wish that when the students graduate, they can emulate what has been done by their seniors.

The sharing session kicked off with some insight by the moderator of the event, Director of The Counselling and Career Services Centre, Br. Saiful Redza Muhammad. The first keynote was a journey to becoming a remarkable person.

œYou have to be yourself, said the Director of Criminal Investigation Department Royal Malaysia Police, Dato™ Sri Mohd Shuhaily bin Mohd Zain. He believes the concept of amanah and rizq will slowly come to the person when they are honest in their work.

Dato™ Sri Mohd Shuhaily was also a hockey player during his undergraduate study years and he balanced his study and sports at the time. He also stated that discipline and objectives that he learned from hockey motivated him in his career. œI can only work until 60 years old, from the time given I need to do my best and get things done or change before my retirement.

Dato™ Sri Mohd Shuhaily also shared that he fully utilised what he learnt and applied it to different circumstances when was asked how our graduates can perform well in their work. He then highlighted the sacrifice that some people often did, it could be either time or money.

Lastly, he advised the students to become more resilient in order for them to survive in the future especially in the current economy, geopolitics and politics. There will be a lot of uncertainties that will be faced by students and sometimes it could be a burden for them in the future if they do not manage or handle them well.

Dato’ Sri Mohd Shuhaily bin Mohd Zain graduated from the Department of Political Science, AHAS KIRKHS in 1996.***
