GOMBAK, 6 April 2024: An iftar gathering was hosted by the IIUM Centre for Postgraduate Studies (CPS) in the Banquet Hall of the IIUM on Wednesday, 3 April 2023. The event was held to celebrate the spirit of Ramadan and strengthen the bond between postgraduate students through Khatam Quran recitation and an iftar banquet.
After the opening remarks by the master of ceremony, the event continued with a welcoming speech by the Dean of CPS, Prof. Dr. Shahrul Naim Sidek.
At the beginning of his speech, he highlighted the importance of the second verse from Surah Al-Baqarah. œAt the end of the day, the expectations [from Allah] is for us to become Al-Muttaqin, explained Prof. Dr. Shahrul Naim Sidek.
Prof. Dr. Shahrul also shared updates on current CPS activities in 2024.
Firstly, there was an update on the 3-Minute Thesis competition that will be held in May. Currently, the event is conducted at the Kulliyyah level until the end of April. The purpose of the competition is to test the students’ skills and for students to share their research findings with others.
The second update from Prof. Dr. Shahrul Naim Sidek was about an almost complete space for discussion purposes. It is going to be a space provided for postgraduate students to bond and discuss on each other’s research findings regardless of their discipline.
Furthermore, the event proceeded with remarks from the Postgraduate Iftar Gathering 2024s Programme Manager, Sr. Farhana Binti Mohamad Zainol.
The event continued with the Khatam Quran recitation by the representatives from postgraduate students. Lastly, the event wrapped up with an iftar banquet.
The iftar gathering was attended by IIUM’s postgraduate students and the staff of CPS.***
