GOMBAK, 22 December 2023: Ahsana KL participated in the Exhibition on Empowering Persons with Disabilities through Entrepreneurship held on December 21, 2023. The event was organised by students of COMM3560: Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC). It took place at the Human Sciences Square, IIUM Gombak, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Ahsana KL is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that holds activities and programmes for insan istimewa or special persons. Ahsana KL welcomes all insan istimewa that are registered with Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) that encompass people that are homeless, heirless, orphans and also the needy.
Ahsana KL holds art-related activities for them by offering trainings and classes. They mostly focus on paintings where Ahsana KL will then assist on selling them at non-fixed pricings. Ahsana KL uses multiple social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube to spread awareness on insan istimewa.
Instagram and TikTok are mostly used to spread awareness on insan istimewa and cultivate love and care for the community especially from amongst the youth. The NGO’s Facebook page on the other hand focuses more on collecting donations from the public and its YouTube channel posts videos on the activities and programmes they organise.
In an exclusive interview, when asked about the difficulties the staff face when working at the organisation, one of them highlighted that guiding insan istimewa on the arts is a challenge. Consequently, the teaching process would be done gradually through one-to-one teaching. As a result, the paintings would take some time to complete, making them valuable as the children invest their time in creating them.
She also added that, as a result of their initiatives, numerous children have experienced enhanced health, made an effective change and are currently working outside. Although the organisation is relatively new, it is making rapid progress; currently accommodating 19 individuals with disabilities ranging from nine to 17 years old.
Ahsana KL’s involvement in the Exhibition on Empowering Persons with Disabilities through Entrepreneurship is indicative of its dedication to using art-related activities to improve the lives of insan istimewa. Their actions create life improvements, demonstrating their commitment to empowering and promoting inclusivity. ***
