IIUM JASA club supports aboriginal community

Gombak, 18 May 2023: The Jalinan Siswa Bersama Masyarakat Asli (JASA) Club of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) successfully organised a programme called Taha For Tohoi in Kampung Pos Tohoi, Gua Musang, Kelantan from 17 until 23 February 2023.

With the theme of œlove ummah, amplify growth, deliver kindness they aimed to give emotional support such as visiting the community, conducting spiritual education, and providing medical checkups and rations.

The first day of the programme started with Mini Cha Rayak (mini feast) that aimed to welcome the presence of indigenous villagers. The dish, Soto Ayam, was prepared and served by the catering bureau that was then followed by the opening ceremony that was organised by the committee.

On the next day, the cleaning of the village surroundings was one of the main agendas in the beautification programme through œgotong royong (communal efforts). The areas cleaned included the surau, hall and surrounding areas.

Ziarah Mahabah and Ziarah Al Ikhwan were more activities on the agenda that involved 78 committee members who shared the spiritual procedure to Muslim foster families, hygiene procedures and noble practice procedures to non – Muslim foster families.

The Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre (SASMEC) of the IIUM also participated in the programme. The staff of SASMEC conducted a health checkup session for all villagers. The checkup included measuring their weight, taking their blood pressure, and measuring the glucose levels of villagers.

In the last three days, there were several agenda items that were executed by committee members such as Ziarah Al “ Yusrah, Ziarah An “ Nadhrah, Mega Explorace, Hal – Ehwal Wanita (HELWANI), Hal – Ehwal Lelaki (HELKI), Mega Sports Day, and Mega Cha Rayak (mega feast).

Ziarah wida signalled the closing ceremony. This activity involved giving a final visit to foster families and providing final advice. The programme was closed officially in the Lab followed by a farewell speech from the Programme Manager, Mohammad Suhaire bin Zakaria; representative from amongst the villagers, Ustazah Aspi binti Atam; an officer from the IIUM Centre for Community Engagement and Services (CENSERVE), Johan bin Hj. Ibrahim; and a sponsor from Mulhaq, Mohd Luqman Hakim bin Yaakub.

According to the Secretary of the programme, Nurul Fazira binti Satarudin, œThe programme was running smoothly, although there were several challenges that were faced such as the delay in sorting out the logistics and outage of electricity.

She concluded that the committee hopes this programme will be conducted again in future to help the aboriginal community further by offering support.
