GOMBAK, 7 December 2022: Despite having a retinal detachment on his left eye since standard one, the graduate of AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS) managed to receive the Abdullah Ibnu Ummi Maktum Special Achievement Award (Academic) at the fourth session of the 38th IIUM Convocation.

“The challenges will always be there, so it is important to manage our stress,” Muhammad Weeldan bin Md Fauzi said in an interview with IIUMToday as he described his journey as a disabled student at IIUM.

He admitted that the pandemic was one of the hardest challenges that he had to endure because facing the computer during online classes for too long made him dizzy due to his disability.

“It is important to focus in class and face-to-face classes help me a lot since I can understand more and ask my lecturers directly, so if there wasn’t any pandemic, learning would have been easier,” he explained.

However, that did not stop him from studying as his friends, his parents, and his faith in Allah was what kept him moving forward.

Weeldan advised choosing friends who can help each other as he mentioned friends are important, especially when deciding the future because having good friends can determine a good future.

He further mentioned that his parents have helped him overcome challenges and have been always supportive and believed in him.

“They helped me a lot financially and emotionally through advice which motivated me to study and make them proud,” Weeldan said.

Sharing his last advice, he wanted others to believe in the rizq that Allah can give, adding that, “Whatever Allah has decided, we just have to follow.”***
