GOMBAK, 5 December 2022: The Rector of IIUM, Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, urged the graduands in the third session of the 38th Convocation Ceremony of IIUM to put into practice the vision and mission of IIUM to the benefit of society.

“Revitalize the ummah and Rahmatan lil alamin as well as remain Shariah-compliant in whatever nature of career that you pursue, as Islam is the main guideline and framework in life,” he emphasised.

The Rector said that the graduands should maintain and improve the sustainability of the ecosystem and use the Islamic perspective to produce innovative solutions.

Similar to Japan, the graduands were asked to improve their competence in facing various issues in relation to world sustainability, climate issues, and what our country is facing today.

“Knowledge without action is willfulness and action without knowledge is foolishness, knowledge with practice should go together,” he stressed.

He also mentioned that if we were to quietly enjoy our life while our brothers and sisters are struggling to survive it would be sinful for all of us to sleep comfortably and have our meals.

“To turn a blind eye to what is happening around us is an act of cowardice and is also the act of a non-Muslim,” he stated.

The Rector took the opportunity to congratulate an alumni from Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Law (AIKOL), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, who has been appointed as the new Religious Affairs Minister and came to the auspicious hall to witness his son receiving a scroll in the Bachelor of Laws.

In his parting words to the graduands, he acknowledged their accomplishments and asked to take pride in them.

“Graduans should continue to strive for excellence in the best way possible in everything that they do and benefit the surrounding community be it Muslims or otherwise,” the Rector concluded.***
