GOMBAK, 12 November 2022: A Theater of Traditions showcasing Indonesias latest trends, dances, traditional clothes, and Indonesian pop songs held in the IIUM Main Auditorium was one of the hallmarks of the Indonesian Day 2022.
Featuring a relatable comedy skit and a dazzling dance routine to traditional music, the performances met with thunderous and roaring applause.
The comedy drama skit was performed by IIUMs very own Indonesian students. It exposed the lifestyle and humour of the Indonesian youth today while also educating the audience of the traditional side of Indonesias culture and history.
It further told the story of an Indonesian student finally receiving his VISA to which audiences reacted in explosive excitement of cheers and laughs.
Meanwhile, the opening skit surprised the audience by time-travelling into Indonesias past where audiences were introduced to a number of traditional Indonesian games such as Gobak Sodor, Rangku Alu, and Congklak.
The games highlighted one of the many ways Indonesians pride themselves in their unique culture and history.
The skit also featured a dance performance by elementary school students from Sanggar Bimbingan Muhammadiyah Kepong, which assisted by a traditional music and featured children wearing traditional clothes.
An Indonesian student visiting from Universiti Sains Islam Malaya (USIM), Thorif Zhafran, who attended the performances, said, œThe elementary school kids were doing a couple of dances from different regions of Indonesia, that made me feel amazed towards them.
The Theater of Traditions further showcased a fashion show that became one of the most iconic attractions of the night where men and women appeared in pairs featuring Indonesias diverse range of clothing from all across the archipelago.
Angklung performance accompanied by the acoustic band Sanggar Chatulistiwa.
As a wrap up of the theatre, performance by the acoustic band Sanggar Chatulistiwa featuring the traditional Indonesian instrument Angklung also took place.
Besides the theater, there were many attractions held at Main Auditorium in celebration of Indonesian Day 2022 such as a photobooth and a batik-patterned background.***
