Best Teachers’ 2014 Award

GOMBAK: The Quality Day 2014 has been successfully conducted at Cultural Activity Centre, IIUM to recognise and appreciate the staffs who have excelled in their performance, duties and responsibilities. Quality Day symbolises the universitys total commitment to improve the quality of all its services.

One of the categories of awards for the Quality Day is the award for Best Teacher. The award for Best Teacher consists of four categories: Sciences, Foundation Studies, Arts and Technical.

The Sciences category was won by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samsul Draman. He is a family medicine specialist and a lecturer at the Kulliyyah of Medicine (KOM), IIUM Kuantan Campus. A gold medal winner in the Invention & Innovation Awards 2011 Malaysian Technology Expo (MTE) KLCC, he  has also participated in the 15th World Conference on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) 2012 in Singapore. He is well-known among medical students as a role model in volunteerism.

The Foundation Studies category was won by Wan Radziah Wan Abdullah, a lecturer of Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) in Petaling Jaya.

The Arts category was won by Dr. Shahrul Mizan Ismail from Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyah of Law (AIKOL). As a lecturer in IIUM, Dr. Shahrul personally thinks that Quality Day is good for all staffs because IIUM appreciates their work and recognises their achievement. He said he was inspired to see colleagues winning other awards and motivated to work hard in other areas besides teaching.

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Azram, a lecturer from Kulliyyah of Engineering (KOE) has won the Best Teacher award for the Technical category. He has recently participated in the International Conference on Knowledge Engineering and Applications (ICKEA) 2014 in Hong Kong.

He said, œI am always concerned about the students. In teaching we should serve the students better and take care of them. We need to maintain good quality in teaching.

Dr. Mohammad Azram expressed gratitude for receiving the award and said the Quality Day is a good opportunity to encourage both the academic and non-academic staffs to improve their services.
