PAGOH, 26 May 2022: Muhammad Irfan, who won the seat of Legal Affairs uncontested in the 2022 student union election, unravels his manifestos and promised to fulfil it for the betterment of the IIUM Student Union.

This second-year student who is currently studying in Malay For International Communication, in the Kulliyyah of Languages and Management, aspired to contest for this seat as Pagoh needs to have at least one legal officer. Thus, he humbly offered himself.

He assured that although he has never been under a “Legal Unit” before, he will try to fulfil his manifesto based on his observation and his previous indirect involvement in legal matters at IIUM SU Pagoh and also with the guidance from his advisor and comrade in Gombak, Ainul Mardhiyyah.

“This is all for the sake of us and the future success of the IIUM Student Union,” Irfan stated.

He revealed his mission in the election for this student union which is to be committed to being a responsible, equal, reliable, and a dedicated officer by providing legal advices to the union not only to the officers but to the members as well.

With his vision to ensure the legal aspect of the IIUM Student Union becomes more robust, its stability remains with the aim that the union continues to move forward over time.

Two manifestos that he presented were as follows:

To advocate legal literacy via organising intellectual discourses

Irfan believes that it is very crucial for the officers and members of the student union to be exposed to legal matters especially related to the student body.

“We do not want our union members to simply carry the agenda of student activism but not acting in accordance with the laws and regulations that have been set, especially those enshrined in the IIUM Student Union Constitution and the Constitution of Malaysia,” he stressed.

He also pointed out that having legal knowledge is necessary for building progressive and holistic students not only for the betterment of the union and IIUM but also for the nation.

To do revision and amendment of the IIUM Student Union Constitution and other legal agreements

Irfan expressed that through the revision of the IIUM Student Union, the constitution and other legal agreements will reveal and show the loopholes that should be amended and improved for a more sustainable future of the union.

“We no longer want legal problems to occur due to differences in interpreting them. Yes, we may not be able to resolve it comprehensively as the union will continue to grow and moving forward. But at the very least, we can reduce such problems from occurring,” he hoped.

Irfan expressed his gratitude to the IIUM students who are directly or indirectly involved in celebrating the festival of democracy in IIUM, specifically the IIUM Student Union.

He also encouraged the students to cast their vote on 28 May to the candidates they believe are capable of leading the union towards forming outstanding students in the fields of education, activism, and nationalism.***
