GOMBAK, 26 May 2022: Bringing about an improvement to students’ welfare financially would be her ultimate aim, says Nurain Abdu Kahhar who won the seat for Assistant Treasurer III uncontested at the IIUM Student Union (IIUMSU) 2022 election.
Nurain, a second-year Malay Language for International Communication (MLCOM) student from the Kulliyyah of Languages and Management in Pagoh, wants to ensure that the the student union funds are efficiently managed.
“I will ensure all transactions will be handled in a consistent manner, policies and procedures established, and there must be a concrete reason for the transaction that supports the goals of the student body in fulfilling the needs of the students,” Nurain said.
In line with her manifesto, she aims to retain and organise every single transaction that occurs so it can be properly documented and ready to be audited which will lead to a more efficient management of the funds.
Asked about her leadership experience, Nurain said she was the student union’s assistant head, in the department of treasurer for Pagoh.
She is also currently the head of Malay debate training unit for IIUM World Debate and Oratory Centre (IWON) Pagoh, and the treasurer for Block Representative Committee (BRC) of Mahallah Zaid.
Being an active student since her first year of studies, Nurain reaffirmed her credibility as a dedicated leader.
Encouraging IIUM students to exercise their voting rights during polling day on 28 May (Saturday), she urged students to choose candidates who they believe are able to represent the voices, and get to know each candidate’s aims and goals towards the betterment of IIUM.
“I will make sure to not leave any student behind and keep steadfast in my mission to ensure an efficient management of the union’s fund,” Nurain emphasised.
According to the IIUM Election Commission, a total of 41 seats are up for election, including five Central seats, 11 General seats, and 25 Office seats, of which 21 of these seats have won uncontested.
