5,619 graduands receive scrolls at 36th Convocation

GOMBAK, 13 March 2022: A total of 5,619 graduands of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) received their scrolls at the 36th Convocation ceremony which was officiated by its President, Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar on Saturday.

The ceremony saw a total of 296 received their doctors of philosophy (PhD), 845 masters, and 4,478 received bachelor’s degree.

The 36th and 37th convocation ceremony with 16 sessions altogether will be held for eight days, from Saturday until 20 March, at IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC), Gombak for graduates who completed their studies in 2020 as the ceremony could not be held in that year due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe delivered a keynote speech titled “Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Look East Policy” in conjunction of the award of Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Political Economy he received from IIUM.

The honorary doctorate was conferred on Abe by Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at the National Palace on Friday (11 March).

Meanwhile, Malaysian Medical Relief Society (MERCY Malaysia) received the Ibn Khaldun Merit Award for Global Social Transformation at the convocation ceremony in recognition of its contributions and services to the society.

In addition, university level awards were also given to best students at the university level.

The convocation ceremony was held by adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOP) that have been set by the Malaysian National Security Council (MKN), Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Higher Education.***
